No Murder, No Banishment, Why Nod?

What this isn’t about.

I want to reassure you all that I haven’t murdered anyone or been sent into exile.

There’s an ancient tale which goes like this: There was a man called Cain who murdered his brother Abel. Maybe you’ve heard it before. It’s an old story which stands the test of time and it’s inspired books and songs. Anyway, Cain survived but had to leave his home and everyone he knew. He went East of Eden to live in the land of Nod.

Cain went East of Eden into the Land of Nod.

My wandering is often lit up by light and beauty.

Now, as I’ve already said, I haven’t murdered anyone or been sent into exile. I love my brothers and sister and get on well with them. I’ve always known where my home is and that is very important to me. I don’t live very far from where I was born. I’m in a stable, fun and loving marriage. I’m close to my children and I count them as friends. I’ve got lots more good friends, some of them I’ve known nearly all my life. I’ve always had a strong sense of God and I try to follow Jesus; that makes sense to me. Still, I’ve often felt lost, unsure and wondering if I’m doing the right thing. Sometimes it feels like I’m wandering and that often feels good, but sometimes it feels wobbly. In this blog, I’ll remember and share some of the people, places and events that help me find my way.

New beauty grows in cold earth, when everything appears dead.

Cain’s story ended better than it began, which is always a good thing. He built a city, married a wife and had a son. Not bad for an exile and incomer. If you want to read his story it’s in the Bible, the book of Genesis chapter 4.

I wonder if you’ve ever felt alone in a crowd, unsure of yourself or lost when you’re surrounded by the familiar? Has something good and new come out of those times?

Things I love.

Wander well, Mandy.
